Who are Bomfunk MC's?

Bomfunk MC's are Finnish electro-house duo B.O.W. (aka Raymond Ebanks) and DJ Gismo (aka Ismo Lappalainen), responsible for the hit single "Freestyler" which sold more than 2.2 million copies worldwide.

How did they get together?

They met at a nightclub where DJ Gismo was deejaying and B.O.W. came up and started rapping over his records. They started chatting and the rest is history.

How did they come up with the name?

"Bom" is a word for grafitti. They have a hip hop background and funk is the element they like to use in their music. B.O.W. is down with the old skool rap and DJ Gismo represent the funk. "MC" stands for "Master of Ceremonies".

Do they have any CDs available and where can I buy them?

They have an album "In Stereo", two Special Edition "In Stereo" albums, five singles "B-Boys & Flygirls", "Freestyler", "Other Emcees," "Rocking Just To Make Ya Move", and the latest, "Uprocking Beats". Their new album is due out soon. The CDs should be available from most good music stores, or you could try to get them online at places like:

They have released "B-Boys & Flygirls", "Freestyler", and "Uprocking Beats" from the "In Stereo" album.

What are those weird sounds on the "Freestyler" song?

They used dolphins. The rest is computer-orientated sounds. There are also sliding guitars.

Were they in any other bands before they became Bomfunk MC's?

Yes, B.O.W was in various underground hip-hop bands, and doing record projects like Soup de Loop. DJ Gismo became a house dj at the age of 15 before joining up with B.O.W.

Are there any others involved with Bomfunk MC's?

Bomfunk MC's is backed onstage by a live band consisting of Ari Toikka (drummer), Ville Mäkinen (bass guitarist), and a breakdance group called Savage Feet, who also appear in their "Freestyler" video clip.

Which special guest artists feature on the "In Stereo" album?

There is Kärtsy from the band Waltari, who features on the track "Sky's The Limit", Mr. B from Bu Bu Man on "Fashion Styley", J.A.K. from The Cool Sheiks on "1,2,3,4", and Bomfunk's very own producer JS16 (Jaakko Salovaara) on the "Uprocking Beats" mix.

Who's the kid in the "Freestyler" video?

His name is Marlo Snellman, and he's 15 years old. He is also an actor, a photo model and a DJ, and has released his own single, "Dust". You can listen to a sample of it in the "Profiles" section of this site under "Marlo Snellman".
